2000 Piece Puzzle, 'The Japanese Footbridge' by Monet |
Monet completed 'The Japanese Footbridge, Giverny' in 1899, based on a bridge in his garden at Giverny. The lily pond in that garden, and depicted in this painting, became his most important and eventually his only subject.
Seeing fragmented forms as the natural equivalence to his own broken brushwork, Monet captures the subtle elegance of reflections revealing the unknown realities of the world. the floating lily pads and mirrored reflections assume equeal stature, blurring distinctions between solid objects and transitory effects of light.
In this series of paintings, Monet proclaimed, "I am looking for something I have not done before, a shiver my painting has not yet given. Everything I have earned has gone into these gardens.
