The Willis Tower standing at 1,450 feet roof eight and 1,730 feet with antenna/spire is the talleset skyscraper in the United States and the fourth tallest freestanding structure in the world. The Willis Tower was designed by Bruce Graham of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill for Chicago based Sears, Roebuck and Co., at the time the world's largest retailer. Construction began in 1970 and upon it's completion in 1973 it was the tallest building in the world and held that title until 1998 when it was surpassed by the petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia.
