The card game with ever changing rules!

It starts out simple, with just the Basic Rule card: draw one card and play one card during each player's turn. But New Rule cards quickly make things chaotic.

Even the object of the game will often change as you play, as players swap out one Goal card for another. Can you get the Rocket to the Moon before someone changes the goal to Death by Chocolate?

For 2-6 players. Game takes 3-30 minutes to play.

Natalae -

Fluxx Is a simple game that can hold anywhere from 2 to 6 players. Players start out with a hand of three cards and a basic rule card that states, “draw 1, play1” per turn. These rules can be changed by any player during their turn by placing certain cards down on the table, these rule cards can determine how and when a player or opponent can win, how many cards to draw and play per turn, or how many cards each player can have in their hand at a time. The object is to get keeper cards that are in the goal on the table at the time. The keepers can be put down in front of the player at any time although creepers have to be put down once the player drew it and immediately replace it with a new card from the draw pile. Goals can change at any time during the game by any player as well. Unless there is a rule card that says players can have more than one, there can only be one goal card in play at a time.

There are four type of cards that can be played: Goals: Goal cards are defined as the card on the table in which a player can currently win the game.. In order to win the game you must have keeper cards and or in some cases, with certain rules applied creepers that make up what the goal requires a player to have in order to win. For example, if the goal hippyism is in play, players must have the keepers, peace and love down on the table in front of them in order to win.

Keepers and creepers: keepers are played by placing the card on the table directly in front of the players. If these keepers match the current goal in play then that player has won. If there is a creeper the player cannot hold onto it. Instead they must place it down next to their keepers in play. You cannot win with a creeper unless certain rules or goals say otherwise. The only way to get rid of a creeper is with a action or rule card.

Actions: actions can be played at the beginning of a players turn or anytime during for temporary but immediate effects to the game: effects such as, stealing cards, drawing cards, trade hands, and discarding certain types of cards.

Rules: rules can be put on the table to manipulate the game and alter the basic rules that everyone starts out with at the beginning of the game which is draw 1, play 1. rules such as hand limit or keeper limit which makes each player discard and keep down to a certain amount of cards in their hands or keepers on the table, drawing and playing a certain amount of cards per turn, double agenda which allows the game to have more than one goal at a time, or inflation which has you draw from either how ever many players are playing or however many cards are in your hand.

Quite simply, you play cards, accumulating keepers, until you manage to meet the current goal. There's some randomness, but there's also some real strategy in the game, as you can sometimes manipulate the play of Rule cards to force other players to play cards that will allow you to win. The playing time quoted above, 2-30 minutes, is entirely accurate.. Some games end quickly and randomly, while others allow for more planning. The idea of matching up keepers to form goals is very simple, and thus allows for game play with almost no explanation; the usage of rule cards played to the table just adds to this simplicity and out of the ordinary fun!

Chandler Fashion Center Game Daze Manager Review - 4/2009

JennAfer-

Quite recently I have discovered the art that is Fluxx. This year, I have been unfortunate enough to have a HUGE gap between my first and last class. Like several hours of a Gap. Believe me when I tell you, that gets boring. Unless you have loads of Homework, I Guess, But homework Can only get you so far. So I have several things hidden away in my bag: A Small set of travel dominos, several decks of Cards, Blink, and now Fluxx.

I developed this addiction named Fluxx at a small coffee shop right outside of my current college, with a few other people, and have played It for four days straight, at work, at home, and on my breaks. Even my Mom loves Fluxx, and it’s hard to get her to stay still long enough to play Any Game.

Fluxx is a solid game, with only two starting rules, Draw a Card, Play a Card. The rules change every turn after. Sounds complicated, but it’s not. Every card tells you exactly what it does. The only goal? To Win, Or at least make sure your playmates don’t.

There are 6* different card types: Goal – The goal is what you need to win! For instance Lets say your card is “The Appliances” This means you need the T.V. and the Toaster Keeper card to Win. Goals can also be things like “Absolutely Nothing” in which you should have Nothing. Nada. Zip, to win. Keepers – Keepers are cards listing Random Items. Love, Dreams, Money, Cookies, Doughnuts, and my personal favorite, the Toaster. New Rule – These, obviously, change the rules. They can change anything, from the number of cards in your hand to how many you have to play, to what noise you make every time you have to draw a card. Action – This type of card is an action you can play on your turn, it is immediate and then discarded. Steal a Keeper, Switch Hands, Everybody Gets 1, stuff like that. Creeper – In Fluxx 3.0, your creeper is a Radioactive Potato, and if you have it, you Cannot win. But, it moves onto it’s new victim soon enough, so don’t worry. In Version 4.0 however, Fluxx Introduces a whole crew of Creepers to keep you guessin’. Meta- A Meta card is a cross between The Basic Starting Rules and the New Rules Card, It lets you decide on “house rules” before the game has even begun. (*The Meta card was just released, in Fluxx’s new 4.0 Edition)

Fluxx is Ridiculous fun, Random Items, and Ever Changing Rules. It now comes in several Variteys. Zombie Fluxx, Monty Python Flux, Family Fluxx, Christian Fluxx, Family Fluxx, Fluxx & Flowers, and Fluxx in several different languages. There is also a storage case for the cards released by Looney Labs called Pandora’s Box, which comes with one exclusive card.
