The game is simple and takes about 30-60 minutes depending on the amount of players (2-6). It offers good strategic elements but also incorporates creative thinking that is fun for both genders.

The object of the game is to earn the most reputation points, this is done by wooing the hearts of princesses by writing them the greatest love poetry that you can come up with using a hand of poetry cards. The princess are fickle though and their hearts can stray easily so you must attempt to match certain symbols on your poetry cards with the Princess Fashion Preferences (Melancholy, Nature, Romance) and Seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter). The more symbols you match the more beauty points you receive which later on can be converted or traded for reputation points. Aside from matching symbols players also compete and actively challenge each other’s poems when wooing the same princess. The player with the most reputation points at the end of the game will be declared the real Genji.

The game play overall is fast paced and interactive, the rules are visually detailed making it somewhat easier to learn and teach and the overall look of the game is somewhat traditional to match the theme and setting of Romance in Japan. Highly recommended to Art, Poetry, History and Card Game lovers alike.
