The French Revolution is famous in part for the use of the guillotine to put nobles to death, and this is the macabre subject of this light card game. As executioners pandering to the masses, the players are trying to behead the least popular nobles. Each day the nobles are lined up and players take turns killing the ones at the front of the line until all the nobles are gone. However, players are given cards which will manipulate the line order right before 'harvesting,' which is what makes the game interesting. After three days worth of chopping, the highest total carries the day.

For 2-5 players. Game time is 30 minutes.

Based on the French Revolution, Guillotine is an excellent game that incorporates both revolutionary leaders and the fun of a card game. It's a great game for two to five players, and for anyone 12 and up. The goal of the game is to behead as many high-scoring nobles as possible. Using action cards, you proceed forward, turn by turn, until all of the 12 nobles have been beheaded in that round. After three rounds, scores are tallied and the highest score wins. The trick of the game is properly using action cards and carefully avoiding negative-scoring nobles. The best part of this game is the pop-out guillotine that the nobles are lined up to. It is an excellent game for families with older children or for a group of friends getting together. It's relatively quick, though dependent on the amount of players (up to 30 minutes,) and definitely a game to consider the next time you visit Game Daze.

Guillotine is a simple yet fantastic card game that I could honestly play for hours. The game is based around the wild beheading frenzy of the French Revolution and basically you get points by “executing” the least popular citizens of the time and collecting their cards. It’s great because you can use action cards to manipulate the order of execution in your favor...or at least hinder your opponents’ progress. Guillotine is very easy to learn, extremely entertaining and I’d recommend it to anyone, from serious gamers to those that may have only played basic board games. Try it out, you won’t be disappointed!

Guillotine is a game in which you literally are taking the heads of nobles for point values. Barbaric? Some might say. But it's definatly fun. First there are the game peices. For 16.99 you get a cardboard cut out of a funny executioner guy standing at the guillotine. You also get a stack of cards called "Action" cards and another stack of cards for the nobles. Each noble has a name, point value, and color associated with it. Grey is almost always bad or negative points. There are action cards that enable you to give those to other players or disrupt the line so other plays just happen to get them. Red, Green and Blue are the other colors symbolizing millitary, nobility, and the clergy. The Grey nobles are usually martyrs or innocent people.

Ok so turn order and how you play the game goes like this. Lay out 12 nobles in a line leading up to the executioner. Each player draws a hand of five action cards. Turn order goes like this; Play one and only one (unless otherwise stated) action card (Which usually involves disrupting the order of the line or gaining extra points for a certain color of noble), then you take a noble card that's closest to the executioner, then you draw another action card. Turns go clockwise untill all the nobles are drawn. Once this happens that's the end of round one (or day one). Once three days happen everyone counts up the number of points on their nobles and whoever has the highest points wins.

All in all, with the combination of easy to understand mechanics, cool artwork, and nonstop hilarity around guillotine is a great game for 2 to 4 players.
