Hive is a highly addictive strategic game for two players that is not restricted by a board and can be played anywhere on any flat surface. Hive is made up of twenty two pieces, eleven black and eleven white, resembling a variety of creatures each with a unique way of moving.
With no setting up to do, the game begins when the first piece is placed down. As the subsequent pieces are placed this forms a pattern that becomes the playing surface (the pieces themselves become the board). Unlike other such games, the pieces are never eliminated and not all have to be played. The object of the game is to totally surround your opponent's queen, while at the same time trying to block your opponent from doing likewise to your queen. The player to totally surround his opponent's queen wins the game.

PROTECT THE QUEEN! DRIVE BACK THE INVADERS! Hive is a one on one strategy that pits two warring hives against one another. There is no board; the bug tiles themselves form the "hive". The objective is to surround the other player's queen with any combination of ether player's tiles. Several different bug tiles all have their own unique movement options which players must combine to corner and surround the enemy queen. Anyone looking for a fun new one on one challenge will find that Hive fills their needs and more.

Do you like the strategy of Go, where placing one piece in the right place can guarantee you victory, or do you prefer chess, where the pieces moving around determine your ultimate success? How about a game where both have equal power over the game?
Hive is just such a game. The game consists of two sets of tiles, with different types of bugs depicted on each, with sets of some. These tiles are great quality, with solid construction that makes them easy and fun to handle. The game itself revolves around placing your pieces down in order to surround your enemy's Queen Bee tile on all six sides. Each piece moves differently, and all of the pieces are different enough to offer a huge variety of possible strategies.
Hive is one of my favorite games in a long time, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys strategy in any form. This is most definitely a game for anyone.

Hive is a game that caught my eye because I have a tendency to flock to games that use hexagons. However I ended up finding it to be a very enjoyable game with the qualities of a go board’s strategic placement but with the brutal tactica of a chess boards pieces, the whole object of the game is to surround your opponent’s queen bee on all sides with the different types of pieces you can use so it can no longer be moved. All in all a great game to play when you want a break from playing chess; simple to learn but difficult to master.
