We’ve all heard about these games from the myriad of commercials airing on television. Well, I decided that I just had to try them. I can tell you from a personal stand-point that these are great games. I enjoyed playing each one of them.

I’ll start with the most popular: Scrabble Slam is a word game that also has an element of speed. You start with a four-letter word (stop snickering) and try to get rid of all of your cards before your opponents. I’ve always been known for my knowledge of words but you’d be surprised how difficult it can be to think up a four letter word quickly. Then you add the fact that each card is two letters. Next, one of your opponents plays a letter that completely changes the word you were going for. If this were a solitaire game, there would be no problem. Of course, there would be no fun either.

Crazy Old Fish War is a conglomeration of four of the most popular kids’ games – Crazy Eights, Old Maid, Go Fish, War. These are all games that I enjoyed growing up. You can still catch me playing these games on my laptop at home every so often. This game blends the rules of all of these games beautifully. If you think you’ve outgrown the kids’ games, then Crazy Old Fish War is the perfect way to reminisce with a new challenge. Can you win at your favorite kids games when you play them all at the same time? I couldn’t, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have fun trying.

Monopoly Deal definitely takes the monotony out of Monopoly. This was the shortest game of Monopoly I have ever played. I think we were finished with the first round in less than 5 minutes. The game’s rules can be somewhat confusing, but at the very bottom of the instructions it says in bold print: “START PLAYING AND IT’LL ALL BECOME CLEAR!” This statement is certainly true. Ultimately, all you have to do is collect three complete sets of properties to win. It seems simple, then your opponent steals one of your properties and adds it to their set. When you think you’ve almost won the game, your opponent then steals a complete set from under you and wins. Again, I didn’t win, but I had fun losing.
